dendrite drawingComputer reconstructed dendritic bundles in cerebral cortex.

Main research interests:

Our group is concerned with studies on the development of central nervous system. We are interested in studying the development of visual and somatosensory primary pathways and of the connections of cerebral cortex. We are particularly interested in some of the factors influencing the formation and refinement of connections, primarily in rodents. Our laboratory has a special experience in the use of neuronal tracers and in the reconstruction of neurons (dendritic arbors and axons included) at the computer, to perform a variety of morphometric measurements.

Moreover, we are interested in studying the molecular pathways leading to neuronal cell death, which we study in experimental models of transient/permanent cerebral ischemia, acute/chronic glaucoma, epilepsy.

Finally, we are studying the role of cell therapy in ALS and spinal cord injury. We are using mesenchymal stem cells and neural progenitors.
